Running Your First Proofing Session
Create a New Project
1. Click Proofing (left side of your screen)
2. Click Select Project (along the top of the your screen)
3. Click New Project
4. Enter a project name
5. Click Create Project
Add a Chapter
1. Click Add Chapter (along the top of your screen)
2. Enter a chapter name
3. Uploading your script:
In this pilot version of Proofing, your uploaded text file must contain only the chapter
or section you are currently working on. Full book or full script uploads are not yet
supported.
You can add your script in one of two ways:
• Upload a file
Select UPLOAD FILE, then choose your PDF or TXT file from your device.
or:
• Paste text directly
Select PASTE TEXT, then paste the script or section you are currently proofing into
the text box.
Pasting text directly is currently the quickest and easiest option when working on
individual sections.
Let us know how you would like this process to work in future versions of the tool.
4. Upload your audio (.wav, .mp3 or .flac)
5. Click CREATE & PROCESS
Your files will now be analysed and processed. You’ll see a message at the top centre
of the screen as this happens. Once processing is complete, the script will appear on
screen along with any potential mismatches. For an average-length chapter, this
usually takes a minute or two but can vary.
Reviewing Mismatches
Towards the centre left is the Script panel, here you can navigate through your script
and audio. When the panel is active, use the Play button or Spacebar to begin/stop
audio playback.
On the right, the Mismatches panel allows you to review each mismatch and
categorise it as either:
PICKUP or IGNORE
Once all open mismatches have been categorised, you can view all pickups under the
PICKUP tab. When recording pickups, we like to keep this list open in the booth, as it
allows quick playback reference for matching tone and pace.
You can also mark pickups as COMPLETED for your own tracking as you work through
them.
Those are the basics of using VO Sidekick Proofing as an extra pair of eyes and ears
while checking your work.
(If you use markers in your editing process - hang around a second and I’ll talk you
through how they work).
As this tool continues to be used and developed, its accuracy and understanding will
keep improving over time. You may at times disagree with or dismiss some suggested
mismatches, and that’s completely normal.
In our experience, voiceover artists, ourselves included, generally prefer the tool to be
slightly overcautious rather than risk missing potential pickups.
Every project proofed through the platform helps us better understand real-world
workflows and continue shaping the tool around the needs of this amazing voiceover
community!
Exporting Markers to Adobe Audition
Need to export your pickups as markers?
At the bottom right of the screen you can export markers for your allocated pickups.

These markers show where your pickups appear in the audio, allowing you to quickly
navigate and paste in corrections while editing.
(Marker export is currently available for Adobe Audition only. If you use another DAW
and would like marker support added for your workflow, contact us at
info@vosidekick.com and we’ll get to work on supporting your chosen DAW.)
